Dave Round at llama does not only sell his own products but he will import you anything you want jeep wise from the states.  He gets the company you want to buy from to ship it the the airport where its added to his own pallets coming over.

I think that is a helpful recommendation.  Not just cost, but there are so many small Jeep specialists in the US that don’t ship to the UK or the shipping costs are sky high.  Worth knowing, thanks.

Genright will ship direct to door or wherever you want in the states 😉

Yes, so will Savvy, Metalcloak and others.  But I have found the quoted costs to be eye watering, compared to Quadratec.  I get why, Quadratec buy a lot of shipping outside the US so have more leverage, but that doesn't make the cost less eye watering 😪  If I could get economic shipping maybe I would be in the market for some aluminium hi-lines in the future.  But I'd also like to see the pound strengthen a bit first as well.

Odd  normally I cant stop him talking lol.   But seriously I had my entire suspension off him, tuning parts, even replaced a strut that was out of warranty that failed.  Even though he doesnt deal with the company he imported a TJ fuel tank guard for me as well.    Maybe you got him at a bad time or he doesnt like you for some reason lol (joke)

Being nosey, was that from Savvy?  I have looked at some of their parts, but the rates they quote for shipping makes it a non-starter.  If somebody has a better way of getting parts across economically it would be of interest.

Pound strengthening would be grand.

This is a subject that seems to come up every now and again. It would be good to have some sort of regular club shipment, say 3 or 4 times a year but not sure how you’d organise it. I have suggested that if you are ordering from the US you could just put up a post letting people know and seeing if they want  to tag on and share the shipping. Again not sure how this would work……requires a lot of trust.

Yes, would be great to do something like that, though not sure of the level of demand.  As you say, amounts could be big in some cases, so difficult to get the logistics sorted.  If the approach was for everyone to buy their own parts from whatever source and shipped to a forwarding company, that would deal with that part, shipping costs could be split on a sensible basis (weight?) and separate payments paid if forwarder was happy with that.  But you may still need one person to deal with tax and a single delivery address I guess.

Belatedly getting back on this, digger. I bought a Spice coloured Bestop. Darkened side windows. Really pleased with it.
Price was competitive -- even with delivery charge on top -- and Dave from Llama4x4 got the top delivered from Fort Lauderdale when he said. Solid service from him.
It was a bit fiddly to assemble and fit -- I press-ganged my son and my wife into helping and we fixed it after a few snags were overcome. Not really a problem, just not a quick fix. Will add some photos here.

Just a thought relating to some of the points in this article. Back then I was even more 'out of it' than now!

Years ago we would have just gone to a car upholsterer who made tops.  It was standard practice back  then. Has any one considered finding a small craftsperson who would do this and priced up?

The idea  may sound laughable to some but I suggested something similar regarding seat repairs when I first had the YJ. I found a 'one man band' (lady actually) and had some super work done relatively cheaply. I'm  fairly certain she would make any thing if you gave her an old one as a pattern and you could have whatever material you want!

Not carpet though!  If any one knows of someone who will make bespoke carpets from measuring the car  I'd be interested. Or does any one have an old floor carpet for a YJ, too bad to use but good enough for a pattern please? Or a good spice one?

Thanks for providing the folliw up.  I have heard trek tops are harder to fit initial, but when you get them on are great.

This is the fitted Bestop, imported from Fla, USA through Llama4x4. Does the job nicely. Plastic windows can be scarred by bird mess, so you have to garage it or wipe off mess asap. Otherwise a great hood.

I've come across specialists in the past who made/repaired hoods and seats for MGBs -- info was shared in MG Owners Club. They seemed to work well. But I don't know about their use with other marques.
