Input Needed for GLASS

Dear All,

I hope everyone is keeping safe and healthy. With so much time on or hands, please read the email just in from GLASS regarding an iconic green lane that we as a club enjoy. For two years we held our Summer Camp in and around that area, contributing to the local economy AND raising several thousand pounds for North Wales Mountain Rescue on each occasion. GLASS is asking that we contact the publications and give input. Again, we contribute positively to that area through our club donations, spending in the local businesses, and through our GLASS membership fees.

Any help in keeping our green lanes open is appreciated.

Jim

FROM GLASS:

As I’m sure you’re all aware GLASS have been running a fundraiser to assist with repairs on several of our iconic lanes in North Wales, one of which is the Wayfarer.

GLASS first spoke to Wrexham county council back in September of 2019 and received very positive feedback regarding future work to maintain and preserve the lane. Since then a management re-shuffle has taken place at the county council and continued communications between them and us have become more difficult. This has been hampered by locals who would like to see the route closed.

While Wrexham have not been very proactive over the last few months, Denbigh CC have been active in addressing work required on their end of the route. GLASS have worked closely with Denbigh CC representatives throughout.

Unfortunately while local residents, Denbigh CC and land owners are aware that Wrexham are dragging their heels and that GLASS has offered significant funding and assistance to ensure the project goes ahead, one particular land owner has recently contacted a local newspaper and voiced some rather erroneous opinions on the matter. It is vital that we address negative press and put pressure on local authorities to carry out their legal duty when it comes to maintaining rights of way in their jurisdiction.

We would therefore like to ask for your help. Below are links to the recent press article, the email address of the publication, and Wrexham CC. If you could take a few minutes to contact the publication and council expressing concerns over the lack of action taken in regards to maintaining the road, despite funding and assistance being offered by GLASS via generous member donations and membership fees, and the false claims being made in the press, it would go a long way to assist in helping us hold Wrexham to their word and get the project moving.
