Platinum Member Derrick? Posted January 12, 2020 Platinum Member Share Posted January 12, 2020 I bought a 1945 jeep just before Christmas, it arrived on a trailer in the New Year, was I chuffed with it, but it wouldn’t start to get it off the trailer, so we pushed it off and into my driveway there was no way I could stay it or even have a proper look at it, it was half 10 at night mext day I was out there first thing, it started first thing but it popped and farted, I thought it just needs a run, so off we went round the block, got 200 yards down the road, it’s out of juice, so the wife had to drag it back, I went off to buy juice for it, yup it took time for the juice to get through, but it started up and I was off around the block neighbors stopped and stared at me, a couple waved, some even got their phones out I wasn’t used to driving a left hooker or changing gear with my right hand, but we got home fine After people had taken their pictures I wanted too look under the bonnet there are a few upgrades (I call em upgrades, I’m not a purist) airfilter, brake fluid master cylinder aren't anything like the originals, but they work anyway I have just got to do a little work on it, do this is just an introduction

Platinum Member V Posted January 12, 2020 Platinum Member Share Posted January 12, 2020 My Dad owned a Mahindra CJ3B that was dressed up as a '50s era military Jeep. It had Hotchkiss wheels with bar grip tyres like yours. It was the closest thing we had in the family to a MB experience. My Dad loved it. The canvas doors on it made a big difference in the winter although they were a bit clumsy to use. He drove it all year round up until he retired. Platinum Member Derrick? Posted January 12, 2020 Author Platinum Member Share Posted January 12, 2020 Mine is a genuine Willys jeep, imported in 1945, but I have no idea about previous owners (wish they bought back the old log book) it was imported from Albuquerque,Texas it has free wheeling hubs on mine, but no idea what they are supposed to do though i know the air filter is the wrong one, but I’m not paying 200 for the real replica one I’m hoping to take it too a few military/nostalgia shows, I’ve even bought a US Paras uniform so I look the part, I got a mate who is coming along as well

Platinum Member Stew the Jeep Posted January 13, 2020 Platinum Member Share Posted January 13, 2020 Ask Jeeparts for advice? There's a whole community of WW2 reenactors out there they should know
Platinum Member Derrick? Posted January 13, 2020 Author Platinum Member Share Posted January 13, 2020 (edited) They want 45 quid for a rope, so I found a rope seller, a lot cheaper and they put the eyes on each end free (okay that can’t be that hard to do) 2 day turnaround, I’m happy with that I also found another mirror for the right hand side, you don’t see them on a Willys very often but they had it on a Jeep in Kelly’s hero’s so I bought that as well Edited January 13, 2020 by Derrick? Platinum Member Derrick? Posted January 13, 2020 Author Platinum Member Share Posted January 13, 2020 It is rated as a tow rope, it’s not a jute rope but a Manila rope just like an original i have had a Land Rover, they can climb walls, very good cross county, but you see them everywhere But you don’t see many jeeps of this age at Tesco or Asda
Platinum Member Derrick? Posted January 13, 2020 Author Platinum Member Share Posted January 13, 2020 I do have a nylon tow rope that I have in my boot of my cruiser, this Manila rope is just for show, wraps around the front bumper I also have light duty jump leads, pretty hopeless really but I have a really HD jump leads I made up, they used to be leads from a gennie, that starts aircraft, they give maximum volts and amperage, starts everything first time
