V
Don't say OSMaps, because it no longer runs on my Android 10 head unit. I need an Android app that can use the GPS signal to show my current position on a moving map. It does not need to do turn-by-turn navigation, just show my position on a map. It also needs to have downloadable maps so that the GPS can be used without a mobile phone signal. The last requirement is that it must be able to load/import my GPX files for the routes that I have created. Got any recommendations? V
I found this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.roadtour.outdoorsgb Run out of time to install it. I found Ordnance Survey haven't broken the iPhone App yet. I hacked a Garmin GPS balljoint mount to a universal air vent phone mount and made a rock steady iPhone mount that is withing reach and I can just about see the detail without glasses. VIP Member MGomes Posted July 17 VIP Member Share Posted July 17 As you know I use my 13" iPad pro with great results with OS MAPS (now just need to convince you to move to the "dark side" lol) Enjoy your expedition!

V
I had a good look at the Memory Map website this morning. I haven't installed or purchased it yet, but I am sure this is the right product for me. I will be cancelling my subscription to OSMaps afterwards as I can do route planning on OSMaps. As no new byways are permitted in UK law, I am trying to decide if a perpetual license will actually be the best option for me as I will always use GLASS TW2 for up to date lane info. The fact that Memory Map sells 4x4 specific maps for Australia gives me some confidence that they will not alienate 4x4 customers in the UK. I am so fed up with Ordnance Survey's awful software release policy without version numbering, without release notes, without technical support that I will probably never go back to them unless they release a product specifically for 4x4 users that drive byways and UCRs. Ludders
Just for reference, you can download the app for free, you only pay for maps....
V
Ordnance Survey appear to update OSMaps on a Friday. It still wasn't working on Friday morning on my head unit when I was in Cumbria, but it was working when I tried it on Sunday morning. I'm still jumping ship to Memory-Map as I'm just fed up with having navigation problems with their software on both Android and iOS particularly for events that I have spent a lot of time planning. I have also found one significant issue with OSMaps that is dependent on internet access. If you download maps for offline use on your device, you still need internet access to select your route from 'My Routes' and start navigating on it. Without internet access the software cannot draw your GPX route on the display. It may only need internet access for a few minutes, but if your route starts in a 'not-spot' you are not going anywhere using OSMaps to navigate. I have not tried Memory-Map for All yet, but if it saves GPX files locally, this will not be a problem when there's no internet access at the start of the route.
