Ordnance Survey hates green laners

I have been a subscriber of OSMaps for a few years and I have used it on my iPhone and my Android head unit in my Jeep. Today, I attempted to download the maps to my head unit for my expedition tomorrow and was immediately presented with a forced update. When the update completed, the app refuses to start. Logging on to Google Play from a PC I have discovered that the app has been renamed in the update to 'OSMaps: Walking & Bike Trails'.

OSMaps won't start on an Android tablet that I have used with the same Google account so I suspect, but cannot prove that Ordnance survey is locking out Android head units specifically to prevent 4x4 users accessing the app. It also looks like they are flagging the ID used with it to prevent other devices from being used for byway driving.

My iPhone is used with a different Google account so I will have to do the entire 300 mile journey navigating on my phone. My phone is usually in the centre console as I have Car Play on my head unit. I don't know yet if I can get Car Play to display the OSMaps iPhone app on my Android head unit. It looks like I'm not going to get much sleep now before I set off at midnight.

This must contravene the data protection act, not by byway driving but but linking your ID to other services.

Would this be an issue with the Android version? Both my iPhone and iPad have had the update and they both work with no issues, OS is not supported by Apple Car Play today. The name is maybe not inviting, but even before the upgrade when creating/saving routes we didn't have the option to save routes as "driving"

Mine still works fine, no problems. Just used it for some lanes in the last week, mine is on iPad though.

Fireman Iain

Outdoor Active works for me, but I only use my phone, so don't know if it would work on an in car head unit.
