It had a 20 year production run from 1970 to 1990 under a variety of brand names.

Have a guess what it could be?

VW Jetta?

Thinking about it that would be too easy, so probably some sort of non-European derivative.  I know VW Mexico made new 'old' Beetles for decades after they ceased production in Europe.

It's not a Jetta. It was originally made in Scotland and exported to the USA for a while...

I was thinking Renault 12 and in fact if there wasn't a VW badge, I would have put money on it being a 12 built under license but could also see Marina influences.  Then the Avengers picture.....Hillman Avenger and a quick google.  Won't give the VW model away so others can have a go.

Love the literal first picture!!

The first photo is of an Argentinian made Volkswagen 1500.

This vehicle was originally sold in Argentina as the Dodge 1500, until VW bought the factory and tooling.

The Dodge 1500 was a Plymouth Cricket,

The Plymouth Cricket was a Chrysler Avenger

The Chrysler Avenger was the Hillman Avenger.

The car was also sold in some European countries as the Sunbeam Avenger.

I never owned an Avenger, my sister and a few of my friends did so I have driven and worked on a few of them when I was younger.

Was going to say an Avenger.
So what little type car was made in Scotland?

I think the Imp was made in Scotland. The Avenger production started in England and moved to Scotland. I only started looking at these old cars trying to find parts-bin sources for old Cherokee components. I wondered if the Cargo lamp may have had a European source. There were a few XJ interior parts that were originally Renault parts from earlier models. I was looking to see if any parts had been used from the Avenger. I couldn't find enough info other than the in-the-wheel-arch-washer-reservoir was first done on the Avenger.
