V
I haven't been able to login to OS Maps Explore to use the routes that I have created and saved. When I click the long red login button, another identical browser window opens on the same login page and so on if I try to login through that page. If you have an annual subscription on OS Maps Explore website, can you try logging in. I have sent a complaint to Ordnance Survey as they don't have a support helpdesk for customers. Gerald F
Not quite the same problem, but last week I was unable to open the supposed 'off-line' OS maps on my iPad, due to a need to log-in to my non-existent account with OS. It's working again today, however, though there's still a log-in page comes up when I open the maps. May be a temporary glitch? V
Can you access any saved routes? I can't. On my phone, previously saved map areas are still visible but I cannot access my routes.
Gerald F
Never actually saved any routes; I only have local maps, and know pretty well all the roads for 100 miles in any direction (there aren't all that many!). Trying the maps again, they seem to be appearing OK with no glitches, but I only use them as a convenient alternative to the paper ones when driving.
V
I tracked the problem down to a server script error that appears to only affect Firefox browser. OS are investigating.
jeepstertim
Not answering the question (seem to remember school reports saying that) but do try the Gaia app if you haven't, I find it outstanding for planning, recording and then navigating by. Any app tracks/ plans can also be accessed through the desktop/ web. Edited March 7 by jeepstertim
V
As far as I can determine, the Gaia maps are from OpenStreetMap.org . Sadly, OpenStreetMap have not embraced the British concept of rights of way so byways are not as easy to identify on their map compared to using an Ordnance Survey map. The annual subscription to OSMaps Explore is £28.99 which for me is better than $40/yr for an OSM based tool that doesn't have the required detail. OS Maps Explore works well enough when it works. It is disappointing that their developers are undisciplined and have no respect for the product's subscribers. They clearly fail to test changes properly before releasing them into the live environment. This type of problem is sometimes experienced by non-technical UK based corporate customers outsourcing development to a foreign offshore software development company that sees 'Agile' as a milking opportunity for continuously billing a cash cow. I am not saying that this is what Ordnance Survey are doing, the problems I experience just make it look like that. SInce I have been an OS Maps subscriber, the problems caused by unannounced changes have left me with the expectation that the tool cannot be depended on to work when I want it too. For this reason, I develop my routes on OS Maps Explore with plenty of time in advance and save them as GPX files. The OS Maps developer's lack of respect for the live environment has left me without the ability to use their Android app to navigate on byways on events. I now complete my route development one month before I need to drive them and make sure that I have downloaded the relevant offline maps and routes into my Android head unit with plenty of time in case that process has been broken (again). I am now experimenting with DMD2 and will likely buy a RallyNavigator license to create road books from the GPX files I create in OS Maps Explore. DMD2 displays real-time navigation using the same OSM maps that Gaia uses (but with a one-off £50 lifetime map subscription). It also has the ability to display a scrolling tulip diagram road book (£5 one-off lifetime subscription). The difference being that I can use the detailed Ordnance Survey data to create the GPX route and then displaying it with OSM data if the OS Maps Android app isn't working.
