JK Wrangler mygig uconnect blank screen?

Hi All

I'm looking for some advice. I have owned my Jk wrangler for 15 years now but on Saturday totally out the blue the sat nav screen flickered for a second and then went totally white! The unit still works as it still plays music and I can make calls using the voice function.

Has anyone come across this before and is it a software problem that can be re-booted some how? My unit is the early model fitted to the 2007 Wranglers with the single on/off/ volume button to the bottom left.

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated as when its dark it lights up the cabin making me look like I am driving in a movie! not good.

Many Thanks.

It sounds like the screen backlight is still working but the screen itself has died or become disconnected from the main circuit board.

It's worth looking for a professional that can do screen repairs if you don't fancy doing it yourself. I have repaired Garmins with new screens before. The video will give you an idea of what is involved if it's not of your exact unit.

Hi V

Thanks for the reply, the video is very useful. I'm going to see if it's a software reboot problem but if that fails I will have to look at a replacement or a repair as you say.

Thanks again

Cut out a piece of card from a breakfast cereal box and tape it over the screen to shade the illumination.

I have discovered over the last 23 years that touch screen GPS units don't like being repeatedly left in the sun on a dashboard. The capacitive touch layer is usually the first to fail but liquid crystal display panels have also failed. I usually cover them with a white cloth or T-shirt when not in use or stow them in the glove box. When I remember, I hang a white T-shirt over the screen of my Android head unit when the Jeep is not being driven. It's not always in direct sunlight like a dashboard mounted GPS would be, but I do it just in case.
