VIP Member Hecklejk Posted February 1 VIP Member Share Posted February 1 It's amazing what a few spare parts and a little redneck ingenuity can turn into! After the weekends adventure down on the plains, it became clear that I needed to sort out my CB radio so when I got home I set about ordering a new Thunderpole and mount. Well it all arrived today and boy is it awesome, got it installed in the front ARB bumper no problem but then I got to thinking "That thing is huge, it's gone get in the way for everyday driving.. I need a way to clamp it down!" And this is what I came up with! A little refining was needed, so I took 8t back into the garage and freshened up the paint, trimmed the excess bolt length and then wrapped with heat shrink. The final product:

Not yet, had some other more important issues pop up, namely the passenger side front fender flare decided to depart the vehicle on the M40 on the way home leaving me with no fender flares the day before MOT!!! Needless to say she failed her MOT so I am now scrounging the parts bin looking for material to fabricate some new fender flares!! I have some ideas for the back gear mounting that will remove the dependancy on the ratchet strap, so watch this space! 1

Like a nice bit of fabrication, so do share how you get on with the flares.

The military could not care less about CB - unfortunately it is old tech and causes no issues with their encrypted comms neither does impact any of the electronics they use. If the CB's were not working this might be (from experience, by no means an expert) a few things: 1. CB configured to EU bandwidth instead of UK (most of them come configured from factory this way) 2. Lack of earth connection to the aerial 3. SWR required (CB and aerial or just one of them) 4. Faulty CB (I had to replace my original "head" on my Midland M5) Also note that handhled CB's have much less range than any CB's connected in the car with an aerial (should work OK in convoy - but shorter in range)
