Whining 3.6 penterstar wrangler

Hi ya

I know there must be a few 3.6 wranglers in the club ?
I’ve noticed my jk has started to whine …. Like the engine / gearbox

it’s hard to describe … it’s almost like a fan belt type whine .?

any body else have this ? I’m just trying to decide if it’s normal I’ve had it for a while & can’t decide if it’s always been there & I’ve just tuned in to it or it’s new 🤔

My 4.0 Litre Jeeps whine from time to time usually after off road driving in mud or muddy water. I give the accessible belt pulleys a small squirt of lubrication oil on the top side of each spindle when the engine is off and that usually cures it within an hour or so left standing. It is usually the idler wheels that squeak on my Jeeps.

That could be it ? It’s more of that type of whine … & feels more at the bulkhead end of the engine ..

I will try a squirt though Vince as like you say my tj used to suffer with belt noise 👍

I guess it does it at a standstill when revved up.  Why not take off drive belt and see if it disappears? You may have tried this but if not it would narrow it down. You can feel the bearings etc in the driven parts at the same time.

Just a thought!

I know where there is a  3.6 V6 KJ being broken at mo. I think that's the same engine if that's any help. Pm me if interested.

John,

Will be interesting to see your dual battery setup as this is something I'm considering.

and tbh if I do get a new one it will prob be a bigger output maybe all the extra lights and twin batteries have knackered this one 🤔

I purchased the mk2 one with the green screen … the installation was a couple of hours & not to hard

I got the same one well it's the Gen 2 not the latest ! Works great allows me to "go out bush" and wild camp ! All I need to ad is some solar then I'm covered for even longer stays if not using the Jeep!
