John
Hi ya I know there must be a few 3.6 wranglers in the club ? I’ve noticed my jk has started to whine …. Like the engine / gearbox it’s hard to describe … it’s almost like a fan belt type whine .? any body else have this ? I’m just trying to decide if it’s normal I’ve had it for a while & can’t decide if it’s always been there & I’ve just tuned in to it or it’s new
V
My 4.0 Litre Jeeps whine from time to time usually after off road driving in mud or muddy water. I give the accessible belt pulleys a small squirt of lubrication oil on the top side of each spindle when the engine is off and that usually cures it within an hour or so left standing. It is usually the idler wheels that squeak on my Jeeps.

I will try a squirt though Vince as like you say my tj used to suffer with belt noise

John
Thank you Stewart I did think to my self today it sounds like alternator … I have a twin battery set up so maybe I should think of replacing it … time to look for an upgrade one thinks
VIP Member digger Posted February 9 VIP Member Share Posted February 9 (edited) I guess it does it at a standstill when revved up. Why not take off drive belt and see if it disappears? You may have tried this but if not it would narrow it down. You can feel the bearings etc in the driven parts at the same time. Just a thought! I know where there is a 3.6 V6 KJ being broken at mo. I think that's the same engine if that's any help. Pm me if interested. Edited February 9 by digger

Thanks digger I will try and look at the weekend … and tbh if I do get a new one it will prob be a bigger output maybe all the extra lights and twin batteries have knackered this one

Works great allows me to "go out bush" and wild camp ! All I need to ad is some solar then I'm covered for even longer stays if not using the Jeep!
