So,

What other unhealthy obsessions does any one have?

Hobbies, Collecting.

I have a slight issue with collecting Oakley items- more so the old school stuff, rare display bits, certain sunglasses, custom sunglasses and watches!

I have an issue with Lego- mostly Star Wars, Classic space sets.

Also an unhealthy appetite for Knives- I like knives....lol...there are more Muela knives somewhere in the house boxed away...the coillection grows monthly...

I currently have about 100 yearlings and about 1000 seedlings on the go, with numerous plants around the garden. Plus a cupboard full of JD, they are 3 deep on the top shelf, almost all different, can’t remember the last time I had a glass too... at least not since the start of lockdown.

I’m told both are a bit obsessive....

Love the Oakley collection!, I know we discussed before but my obsession apart from Jeeps and Alfasud’s is watches influenced by my dads love of them and various items he left to me when he passed away , notably his 1952 Rolex air king that I had restored and is currently on loan with my younger brother until my son is 21 when he gets it . Still have a couple of places in the watch box for something else if I see something that catches my eye 👍

That's really good to have and hand down a collection acquired over generations, especially if it is appreciated by the next owner. I don't think there is anything of mine my youngest would want.

I wouldn't class it as an obsession, but I do have a compulsion to buy useful tools that I need for a specific job. I have lost loads of them to thieves over the years, including many special tools that I made myself. I wouldn't say any individual item is precious other than my Metrinch socket and spanner set.

The one other passion I have had since childhood has been dinosaurs. Putting my hand into the foot print left by an Allosaurus 150 million years ago in the actual place where the animal stood is one of my all time joys. When I go on any city holiday break I will always look for a museum with a dinosaur collection to visit.

Top left is a £20 Magir.

I get some banter about it amongst my watch friend’s, but it looks and feels great to wear so why not. I’ve got freakishly large wrists so it sits well for me 👍

Myself and some friends did some fibreglass footprint casts of dinosaurs locally in a landfill site. Just on the road before they filled them in, was great today very interesting to see the footprints across the bedrock in the topping limestone layer.

Wish we had done more, I’m sure if we had been a bit more proactive they wouldn’t of been covered over with landfill

I am glad you got some casts. Have you identified what creature made the prints?

I have heard tales of prehistoric fossil discoveries during UK motorway construction being deliberately destroyed to avoid project delay. I know the palaeontologists would likely disagree with me, but I would rather footprints and other fossils got dug up carefully and sold on the black market than being lost forever. Private collectors are now paying more for them than museums. Many in-situ trackways are considered priceless.

One of those thinks where you say ‘I like that’ and every present turns out to be JD 🤣

Generated a few interesting conversations on Teams calls during lockdown when I sat in front of them

Hi Doodle, I like the ski head gear display. I saw one like it on display in Tromso a few years ago. Is that where you got it?

Just imagine a Jeep equivalent!  😄

D,

I bought it off a fellow collector a few years ago now.  A jeep one would be cool 😎

These were found next to the M40 in a Land fill quarry (Ardley) 4/5 miles from my house. I am sure when the M40 was built they would have seen them and just ignored it for ease.

We were told by a local guy that works at one of the Universities in Oxford that the prints were from a Megalosaurus .

We just jumped the gates and went down late at night with lights etc, this was back in 2000.

There were a good 60/70 visible footprints of various sizes ... Loads on google about them, I believe it was quite an important site at one point

Hi Doodle, that's interesting, do you know if it's Norwegian  or where it was made? I had the impression that the one I saw was a one off. i might have a picture somewhere but I'm certain it was very similar if not identical. I can't remember the price of it but i do remember it was a heel of a lot. Mind you everything was!  A coffee and a cake was about a tenner and that was, I think , about  15 years ago!!
