Surfer
On our 2018 Grand Cherokee Overland CRD our Satnav is out of date as I found out the other day. Has anyone had the Satnav updated recently and if so any idea of the cost? Thanks.
Gerald F
Following links on the FCA website, it seems one should be able to download current maps, but I could not get far enough to actually reach them. I messaged FCA, who said that I would probably need a dealer to install them (which I had had done in 2017), but I asked a dealer when I had the crankshaft recall done, and they said they didn't have the software to do it, and hadn't had any updates, either. It is difficult to get new maps in Australia, according to a FaceBook group there. I think you just have to be lucky with asking someone who actually knows how to do it. I'll be trying again in the next few weeks, since I increasingly find myself traversing fields and rivers with no roads; the Firth of Forth is a little too deep even with the suspension raised! If you have any luck, please post the connection on this site. As for cost, I got the first update when I bought the GC at 18 months old, free of charge, but I have heard that a three figure sum may be involved, in which case I shall buy a new Garmin or TomTom, with lifetime updates. V
Does your Jeep's head unit have car play or some other mechanism of sending the output of an app running on a mobile phone to the the head unit's display? If it does, TomTom Go subscription is £20 a year and you can download the maps to your phone so you don't need a mobile phone signal to navigate only the signals from GPS satellites in orbit. Surfer
I do also have the TomTom Go Camper for when towing the caravan and it allows you to change between car only and car and caravan however at times simpler to use in car satnav. V
I installed an Android based head unit in one of my Cherokees. I run TomTom Go directly on it. It works well enough for me, but the head unit needs a minute to start. I have been a Garmin user for 22 years and still use my Garmin in my other XJ but not for long. Likely to go to a tablet based navigation solution either Android or Apple using TomTom Go, OS Explore and What3Words->TomTom. I guess if it's Android I don't have to pay another subscription for a second device on the same account.
Surfer
Apparently when they updated the Satnav they update the whole system. I may probably only have the one update done depending on price and leave it at that.
