Sicarrie
I was loathe to post an old chestnut like this, but I'm scratching around for decent information - so sorry for raising it again. I do about 25k miles/yr, so fuel economy does play a factor in purchase decisions. I really want a new/newish Wrangler, but the sensible diesel option is no longer available and the used choice of diesels is practically non-existent. So what can I expect out of a 2.0 GME petrol on a decent run, ie 50+ miles of motorway cruising at 'roughly the speed limit')? Is ~30mpg a distant dream? Thanks in advance! Fourpot
No idea what a diesel Wrangler should do, but I get about 23 -25 mpg on petrol in my Cherokee XJ, and 40+mpg in the company Transit combi van (2019 2.5 diesel with 6-speed auto) these at motorway speeds. So I would hope 30mpg is easily done.

If I drive at around the speed limit on dual carriage ways I will get high 20's mpg (sometimes 30mpg) - but I have a petrol one
BLUE STAR
Got a 2.8CRD unlimited. Get 24-25 local driving 27 -28 mixed Steady 60 on the motorway longer runs 29-30-32 mpg depending on wind direction & strength Keeping the MAF & MAP sensors clean aids greatly. Tailgating an EDDIE STOBART produces greater yields
Sicarrie
Oops - just amended my original post to make it clear I was asking about a JL petrol (because there is so much more choice of them compared to diesels).

So - I did a fair few miles with the car in the last 2 weeks (went to Wales twice and live near Salisbury) - with my 2L Turbo JL I did around 29mpg on journey one (literally road trip - around 300 miles in one day) I then drove back on Tuesday for the JOC Summer Camp and with 4 days of laning and around 300 miles of motorway my average was around 26 (20 / 22 when green laning / off-roading and then higher on road)

Ludders
I recently did 180miles at 60-70+ (with freedom panels off) and averaged 29mpg. I'm not an economical driver... 2.0 Rubicon with BFG KM2s.
Spike64
2.0 GME 2 door rubicon on mud tyres. Normal commute from rural Kent to central London, 55 miles each way, average 28-33mpg. Drive 65-70(ish) mph on the motorway, but lots of stop start as I get into Lambeth I use a soft top in summer and hard top in winter Hope that helps
VIP Member Raakhee Posted August 22, 2022 VIP Member Share Posted August 22, 2022 I'm getting smiles per gallon My Jeep just hit 500 miles after day 1 at Walter's Arena last Wednesday and currently is at 852 miles. Average seemed to be 21/23 mpg but then we were off roading.
Tony
2.0 Jlu on bf mud terrains showing 22-23 mpg.are the numbers given taken from computer on your jeeps or worked out fuel used/miles driven, just wanted to know how reliable taking the mpg from the on screen computer is. frosty
the screen displays are notoriously unreliable, the only way to accurately measure MPG is tank fill up, to tank fill up, and see how many miles you have done.
VIP Member TimC Posted August 23, 2022 VIP Member Share Posted August 23, 2022 ......digressing from the topic a bit, but i still find it rather odd that when discussing fuel economy we still refer to MPG when we buy fuel by the litre and I suspect that most people under the age of 50 barely know what a gallon is, even I have to stop and think about the conversion if I want to work out how much a journey has cost me. Never mind, I'm sure this is up there on the Brexit Bonus list for Rees-Mogg when he switches us back to the Imperial System

Why is there even a difference? 1

Why is there even a difference? a USA gallon is smaller than a UK gallon, this is due to a USA pint being 16 fluid ounces, and a UK pint being 20 fluid ounces, both " gallons" are made up of 8 pints, so a USA gallon is 20% smaller than the UK gallon. 1
HussaR
And diesel JL 2 door owners care to share their mpg? (Uk mpg of course)
Sicarrie
Thanks - didn't expect so many responses and it's pleasing that getting 30mpg on a run seems realistic. I'm currently getting that out of my diesel Ranger (not the smartest choice for a daily, I know, but I love it). With petrol being roughly 5% cheaper than diesel, 5% worse economy would keep the status quo. Looks like it's time to start looking at new and used Rubicons; but 2dr or 4dr?... VIP Member Caroline12 Posted August 23, 2022 VIP Member Share Posted August 23, 2022 If you want high mpg and a Jeep my 2017 Jeep Renegade 1.6 Turbo diesel hit 52-54uk mpg in rush hour, but of motorway and lanes. motorway steady 70mph I got 62mpg., a good solid engine too 4 cyl, not the rubbish 3cyl highly tuned 1.0-1.3 petrol engines of today that don’t last long.

V
If you don't need the rear seats for passengers it is surprising how much stuff you can cram in to a 2-door Wrangler as a 2-seater.

That is certainly true, but then you've got a two seater. Depends what you need. I would never have got my current (JKU) Wrangler if it had only been available as a 2 door. I had never even really thought I would end up with a 4 door Wrangler but I was very happy when I saw the JKU at the showroom and could see what flexible space it had.
V
I found that the JKU included the best features of both XJ and TJ that I liked and was a more natural successor to the XJ than the KJ. My favourite Wrangler is the LJ. I've never owned one but I have rented a few modified LJs. Being an XJ fan, I liked the longer wheelbase on and off road. I am amazed that Jeep never did a longer wheelbase 2-door (4 seater) for the JK or JL.
