Surfer
Although we really loved our 2012 Overland Summit, I felt I could no longer trust it after it coming to a sudden and unexpected grinding halt on the road. We have spent over £2000 in repairs in the past 6 weeks with various issues and this car was maintained by the Jeep dealer and serviced regularly. I traded it in for a black 2018 Grand Cherokee Overland with 36k on the clock. It is like driving a brand new vehicle although I miss some of the extra features on the Summit like the Forward Collision Warning. However I never realised that the vehicle uses Adblue. Apparently the Jeep takes over 30 litres of Adblue. Does anyone have any idea of how long a tank of Adblue should last in the Jeep regarding time and mileage? I am aware that generally it has a shelf life of about a year as per thsi website. https://www.greenoxsolution.co.uk/AdBlue/Handling
V
I have never had a Jeep with AdBlue but the Audi SQ5 we had was a pain to refill. When I used the AdBlue pump at forecourts, the pumps would error within a few seconds. One attendant said that their pump did that on some cars, the pump was usually in the truck refuelling lane back then. I tried refilling using AdBlue using the gallon bottles. I think I got 80% in once, the rest of the time it would leak more out on the floor. The solution was easy. When the car went in for servicing I asked the dealership to refill the AdBlue tank at the same time. Their AdBlue was strangely a few pennies cheaper and no-hassle. I never put in AdBlue again myself after that.
Surfer
Apparently at every service the dealer is supposed to completely fill up the Adblue tank. However this raises the question of the "old" fluid still in the bottom of the tank as Adblue has a shelf life. If it crystallises it can cause some really serious damage to the fuel system costing thousands to repair. I am not sure if this can happen as just a theory. frosty
my f Pace had it, i never had a problem, there will be some way of checking how much is in the tank, did you read the hand book.
V
I learned something new today. I didn't know about the crystallization problem or the -11 DegC freezing point. I suppose if you are worried about this being a future problem, ask if the SCR system is checked/cleaned at service time as part of the service. If not included, how much extra does it cost. V
I found this on range top-ups for Wranglers which may be relevant.
VIP Member Raakhee Posted August 14, 2022 VIP Member Share Posted August 14, 2022 My Renegade Trailhawk used AdBlue. But the tank was smaller. I got 2 refills from 1x10L from Halfords. I know there are pumps at some of the petrol stations but never used it.

I guess I can base the Overland on about the same consumption. No mention in the handbook about refilling or I have not found that paragraph yet? VIP Member UKTJ Posted August 14, 2022 VIP Member Share Posted August 14, 2022 (edited) The price of AdBlue seems to have shot up in the last few months. Edited August 14, 2022 by UKTJ Typo
BLUE STAR
Yes isn't a 'coincidence' that the push to drive electric (powered by predominately Gas) coincides with price hikes in running ICE vehicles ! (& its all Putins fault) Not that my 2.8CRD has AdBlue (or even a Particulate Filter) Isn't it supposed to be similar to horse urine ? (More environmentally sustainable maybe ?) Fireman Iain
My 2017 GC Overland gets filles with Adblue at service time, and I never need to add more between annual services. I do about 10000 miles a year. No problems so far with it "going off" in any way.
