I need a used steering box for a right hand drive XJ. It has to be functioning, no broken sector shaft, no missing balls. Not too bothered if it is leaking as I will rebuild it.

Donor vehicle can be RHD petrol or diesel XJ Cherokee 1992-2001, or ZJ Grand Cherokee 1994-1999.

There may be a steering box on the ZJ I told you about. I will go and have a look if you like.

Good luck with the rebuild. I wanted to do mine in the YJ but I couldn't get all the parts I wanted 4 yrs ago. A new box was a lot so I bought a recon from specialist 'WPS' in Bristol for about £200+. There were attractive because they had good reviews and they were near enough to me that I could go there and inspect. Nice  workshops, knowledgeable , friendly helpful folk. Guarantee up to 5 years option. Mine has been gr8.

I found WPS. Their price is comparable with others. £250 to rebuild a customer supplied steering box, £375 off-the shelf rebuilt including the £100 core charge.

£375-£250=£125 so the value of a used box to a rebuilder appears to be £100-£125. If the seller wants £125 or less for it, please buy it. I will PayPal you the money same day or give you cash at Summer Camp.

Yep, I  I did a p/ex. I think they offered different levels of guarantee and i went for the middle one. My worm was so worn it was at the end of the adjustment and before I started on the steering (it was the first thing I did) the play at the wheel was 15"!!!!!!  I'll try and pop over to the scrappie on Monday.

Don;t you have an old box at all then, or are you  ashamed to p/ex it 😁

In the old days the bodgers with worn s/boxes, g/boxes and axles  rammed them with ladies tights and melted aero grease.  ''Stiff gearbox sir, that's because  its new!!!!''  LOL!   Oh the things that used to go on and still do, although maybe in different ways

I need an extra one because I am modifying it to provide switched hydraulic power to a double acting cylinder for hydraulic assisted steering. I want to always have one as a spare.

I haven't found a source for the worm gear yet, but I can get replacement parts for everything else.

Arrived today. Paid £100 including delivery. It is missing the pitman arm nut but I've already bought a new one along with replacement bearings and a full rebuild kit.
