GBP/USD Exchange rate forecast 2022-2023

If you are thinking of buying parts from the USA, it may be worth considering doing this very soon. I have just looked at an exchange rate forecast and some are expecting the US Dollar to be worth more than the GB Pound by May 2023. The pound is expected to slide down to 90 cents before any recovery.

I reckon this is going to affect new vehicle sales if there is a 20%-30% price increase on American made vehicles sold in the UK.

Something I watch regularly. Finding parts stocked by US companies in EU/UK warehouses helps but there are only a few.

The US surprisingly raised their interest rates by .75 and the pound many thought would tank on the news but it held firm. It is a lottery for sure but things do point to US goods becoming more expensive.

Rubicons MSRP have already jumped 5% from £56K to £59K

To be honest @V we have already passed the point where I will only buy parts and import from the US if absolutely necessary.  My benchmark is driven by exchange rates, shipping costs and duty; once those three combine to mean my price in pounds is greater than the dollar sticker price I struggle.  Jolly glad I got all the major items I needed before shipping costs jumps and the pound dropped.

I am usually quite good at finding UK or EU stocked parts for less than landed goods from USA, but UK prices on the parts I need now are either high or unavailable. To repair the ethanol damage on my '93 XJ it is still cheaper to buy parts from the USA than the EU (none that I need in the UK).

Sounds like that falls in the “absolutely necessary” category 😟
