I have a 2017 jeep but have never been offloading so would love to participate. Is the price per member or per jeep. Its just me and my partner hoping to come. Thank you. Do come - I am a fairly new "Jeeper" and the JOC is just amazing - everyone is happy to say hello and to help you!
Platinum Member V Posted March 18, 2022 Platinum Member Share Posted March 18, 2022 If you are a first time off-roader, it is probably a good idea to let JOC know that you don't have any prior off-road experience when booking. When you sign in at the event, let the event official know that you are a first-timer as they are likely to coordinate some basic training ether one-to-one or in a group. Before the event, search YouTube for 'off road driving basics' and watch videos that are made in the UK with recognisable vehicles. This will make it easier for you to listen to instruction on the day without experiencing information overload. Don't be afraid to ask questions on this forum or at the event, everyone was a beginner at some point. Here are some basics that you can start looking for answers to that will help prepare you on your first day. Don't worry if you can't find all the answers beforehand. - What should I be wearing or have with me for off road driving? - Can you locate the towing points on your vehicle? - What is the safe steering wheel grip for off road driving? - Under what driving conditions do you use the four wheel drive modes that your vehicle has and how do you select them? - What are the braking techniques that are used off road (manual transmission/automatic transmission)? - What effect does tyre pressure have off road? - What speed should I be driving off road? 1

We have a qualified instructor leading a course (listed on event details) to assist with new to Jeep, new to 4x4. And a selection of recovery gear at event pricing will be in hand.

Platinum Member UKTJ Posted March 21, 2022 Platinum Member Share Posted March 21, 2022 Not sure I am going to make this now. Have slowly been installing my suspension lift over the weekend and have now hit a problem. The shock absorbers I ordered have arrived, but one box does not have the bushing in it for the lower mount. So until I can get a replacement bushing over from the US it looks like my TJ will be on axel stands on the drive - I fear this may be a few weeks. The really annoying thing is I have had the shock since last year, just waiting to get around to doing the lift install.
Platinum Member digger Posted March 25, 2022 Platinum Member Share Posted March 25, 2022 Sadly,I'm not going to be able to make Slindon after all. I am still waiting for some vital parts from USA for the YJ. I need these due to an unexpected vibration issue resulting from the new axle which I have fitted. Enjoy yourselves every one.
Platinum Member digger Posted March 26, 2022 Platinum Member Share Posted March 26, 2022 Hi UKTJ, What size is the bush? You should be able to get one that will fit and do the job fine, certainly for Slindon. Have you tried local motor factors etc. Have you Googled ''Shock absorber Bush by size'' There's a good choice! I have a few here, if you are quick and I have one the right size I could post it 1st class. I need diameter of the hole in the shock. There are sometimes two different diameters, in which case I need both plus position. Also the length and type description. What make shock is it? If you have one what are its dimensions? Hope this helps , good luck, enjoy Slindon.

Thanks @digger I have sorted that one after similar advice from @V but still need to tackle the rear upper shock bolts, which have a very dodgy reputation... Platinum Member digger Posted March 26, 2022 Platinum Member Share Posted March 26, 2022 Sorry missed Vs post. In what way dodgy? Front/rear? What's problem.? I just watched some guy on You tube. He put an air tool on a very rusty looking, dry bolt (rear shock)and wondered why it stripped out! I always soak anything like that with releasing fluid , preferably overnight(tie tissue or rag around them to keep them wet) or longer. I use RP 90 penetrating oil or home made 50/50 white spirit / ATF. Is that a start?

Thanks for that @digger On the US TJ forum I frequent those bolts are renowned for being rusted in and ultimately snapping off. I did soak them with peneteating oil for a couple of days and they came out fine in the end.
Platinum Member Mike WK2 Posted March 26, 2022 Platinum Member Share Posted March 26, 2022 Hi Jim, m we are planning on camping the Friday night if that’s still ok. Will have to wait for the little guy to finish school and then will be coming straight down. So guess ETA with M25 traffic will be about 19.00. just checking that camp location is same as the site location posted originally. Thanks Mike

Since the last JOC event at Aldermarston, It's seen a lot of mechanical changes, It's now running a Terrafirma lift, gone down to Trailhawk 17" wheels, gone up a tyre size from Yokohama Geolander GO15 All Terrains on 18's in 225/55/18 to Falken Wildpeak AT3W All Terrains in 225/65/17 size and Terrafirma Wheel Spacers and fitted Valkyrie Off Road Roof Light Bar Brackets imported from Utah, a 42" Curved Light Bar, KC Hilites Cable Hider down the front screen as on this Renegade I have the Pano Roof and didn't want to disturb the Roof Rails too much and wanted to avoid the neater and better method of running the wiring under the roof rail channel (my preferred and recommended way to run the wires like I did on my last Renegade). Really enjoy Slindon, always plenty of accessible routes, no idea how much water there will be after a fairly decent dry spell but I'm not too fussed in taking it much deeper than we did pre-covid a couple of years ago! (even with the lift as the air intake is behind the drivers side headlamp, the diff breathers are reasonably high near the top of the wheel arches.) gotta get to work Monday still! The lift has made a big difference with extra ground clearance, Hoping for a decent social, catch-up and helping a few Renegade newbies have a good day! Platinum Member Mike WK2 Posted March 30, 2022 Platinum Member Share Posted March 30, 2022 Hi UKTJ, I have an SWR meter and cable I can bring with me not a problem. Do you know if your aerial is tuneable ? Or if needs to be cut to tune, if it needs cutting I’ll sling the grinder in the back as well as I found that easier for making small adjustments.
