Hi

New to this site, looking to buy a tj series and wondering if anyone has any thoughts on japanese imports.  There’s a few on autotrader at the moment and on the face of it look decent.

thanks

Rob

I may be wrong, but I believe both @Cameron and @koning2e have Japanese import TJs.  Also, there is a garage that seems to specialise in them, Atlan Motors IIRC.

Yes, I bought one about three years ago from Atlan.  It has been absolutely great.  The Jeep is 16 years old, easy to modify and has run quite well since I got it.

The only issues have been things you would expect of an old vehicle.  Such as have to replace the shocks or a warm out joint/bushing.

i highly recommend it

Yep , nothing wrong with Japanese imports. However, take note of Cameron's issues.

I posted a while ago about this subject. Just because a car has a super body/chassis don't assume its all 'tickety boo'. The one I test drove was like a new car, inside and out,  but it was not fit to be on the road mechanically!  In fact it was downright dangerous, despite its new ''MOT''. The steering and suspension were appalling. The dealer insisted that this is how Jeeps drive!!!   An idiot, a crook or an ignoramus, I had no idea!  Of course this warning applies to non imports too.

Providing body/chassis good you could well get a better deal with a looked after UK model especially if  its well sorted. The import I tried was grossly overpriced considering the work it needed!

Don't forget the YJ, good  comfort if set up well, and now very rare meaning more appreciation!

I've got a Jap import, and the reason was due not finding a good UK one, saying that my last 3 cars have all been Jap imports so I'm happy with imported cars.
