UKTJ
Oh dear, Daisy looks great, but worried my quick jet wash of the engine bay is not up to muster. I was going for the ‘well used Jeep’ look .especially as I am carrying a bit of off-roading damage at the moment.

Platinum Member Caroline12 Posted July 31, 2022 Author Platinum Member Share Posted July 31, 2022 Quick update: after Speedfest a few upgrades were added, 1. Dukes of Hazzard, Hazzard county number plate on the back bumper firstly I loved Dukes of Hazzard and where I was too lazy to remove and touch up the back unistrut step, accidentally mist sprayed the back a little, so it now hides most of that 2. Duncan Duck received a pair of flame sunglasses to save his eyes when on the road
Platinum Member Caroline12 Posted July 31, 2022 Author Platinum Member Share Posted July 31, 2022 Due to a 2nd hand engine being fitted due to water damage, I have now finally got time to fit my snorkel to be honest, I was a little nervous about drilling the holes in the body work, but with the template it was fine. I brought a proper 86mm sheet metal holesaw from Bosch, £20. I know from experience the better the tool, the better the end finish, finish was perfect. I removed the front wheel, and inner wheel liner so I had good access to both sides comfortably. Drilled the hole for the snorkel marked the position of the 5 bolt holes, drilled them. fitted the foam to the snorkel to go between the bodywork and snorkel, sticky was not sticky, so I superglued it. Now it stays in place. marked the holes for the snorkel bracket by drivers window, screwed the bracket on the A frame. next the hose, wow what a nightmare to fit. the funny air filter horn shaped thing, I removed it completely. The hose would not sensibly fit on it or get it in place. fitting the 90 degree bend and clamp was a bugger, as it hits the A-frame to wing chassis frame. Not ideal I also changed the supplied bolts to longer Allen bolts, plus washers and nut. This allowed me to fit the bolts with a gap to the snorkel, fit the rubber hose, then tighten the nuts on the Allen bolts to draw in the snorkel into place on the body and then tighten up. This did make it a lot easier that the fiddle little bolts they supplied. the other end of the hose to air filter I feed it round and pushed it in the air filter suction hole, an oval shape, it fits perfectly. The clamp cannot be fitted, but it’s tight to get out, I will tape it up for added waterproofing, not done yet. next ran the engine and checked for air suction on the hose ends, there was no air suction from the hoses at all. Hand over the roof air suction, it is sucking air like mad, when you block the air suction. I put the wing inner back on, but if a fight with the hose but got it on. Wheel on so a bugger to fit the hose, but good, I’m happy with it, it gives the Renegade a fraction throatiness.
Platinum Member Caroline12 Posted July 31, 2022 Author Platinum Member Share Posted July 31, 2022 (edited) Lastly I have fitted a permanent CB roof mount and mounted the CB inside the vehicle. It’s a lot better now, I’ve hidden the cables, mostly and will be fitting a permanent switch and power supply with the dreaded cigarette power adapter. I fitted a adjustable mount, because Faisy lives in a carports, so when I’m use, put the Ariel up. the cable ran down the edge of the windscreen into the wing, then joined the front light power cable into dashboard, up past inner A frame pillar trim to the CB unit. Perfect @spookie the aardvarksoldered the new cable connection for me, all good and it works fine not quite finished, but 90% done. Platinum Member Caroline12 Posted August 23, 2022 Author Platinum Member Share Posted August 23, 2022 After Walters Arena and the green landing in the Brecon Beacons I have found some damage to Daisy Duck, quick inspection of parts today after work. 1. Front left daytime driving light was intermittent and knock inwards. Re clipped into position., found tarnish on the light contacts, contact cleaner and scouring pad bright clean again, now working. 2. removed and reshaped the the under body armour on the prop shaft, it got a bit heavy dented rocks 3. found a flattened and dented exhaust pipe between fuel tank armour plating, a big ding and a mangled end pipe. I reshaped to roundish end pipe and half-rounded file the edges off for smoother exhaust gas flow out the exhaust pipe. 4. checked and cleaned off all the muck off the rear transfer box for rear wheel drive, a few scratches from rocks but no damage checked the rear suspension at the same time still more to check, Daisy did fantastically well, now she needs some love and attention lots of mud

Platinum Member Caroline12 Posted January 10, 2023 Author Platinum Member Share Posted January 10, 2023 We went on Salisbury plain over Christmas, this video shows were my snorkel came into its own, without the snorkel I would have flooded the engine (again) steady driving and the snorkel allowed me to drive through this carefully. I am so glad I brought and fitted the snorkel, piece of mind, it now lets me get past obstacles like this. IMG_3350.MOV

Platinum Member V Posted January 11, 2023 Platinum Member Share Posted January 11, 2023 I watched it on Firefox 108.0.2 on Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS without a problem. The .MOV extension is usually used for the Apple Quicktime video format. Microsoft web browsers for Windows have bundled support for Apple video and audio formats since 2009. If you have older Apple software installed that supports Quicktime via a plugin it may break the browser's support of the format. Try downloading the file and clicking on it from the File Explorer. The file extension should be associated with Media Player so it will either work or throw an error that may disclose the fault.

Platinum Member Caroline12 Posted January 18, 2023 Author Platinum Member Share Posted January 18, 2023 I finally got time today to do an emergency front recovery install. the problem with Renegades compared to Wranglers is there build, a unibody construction, not the solid ladder chassis construction. Unibody do not have good recovery positions due to the chassis issue. the rear Trailhawk hook is fine for recovery, I would prefer a towing eye that a hook, but that’s life, it is attached to the chassis and is strong. the front towing location, a screw in eye, for road purposes it’s fine, for off road, not quite so good. With the correct recovery techniques, a fully 100% fully screwed in, carefully you can recover from the front. But a fully stuck in mud Renegade ??? I don’t think so. I have heard the snatch recovery (not practiced in the club) can rip the front bumper completely off - that’s not good. So what to do, how to create a 100% secure Front recovery position. First I searched online and looked at recovery options. next location, where I am going to put a secure recovery point ? after lots of thinking, I decided underneath on the armour plating which is bolted to the engine chassis frame, so strong enough to pull in. The pull would also slightly lift the vehicle out of any obstacle, an added bonus. I purchased 2 x 12 ton lorry trailer lashing down points. A bit overkill, but it lays flat, its height is low. Other options were just too high, the higher it is, the move ground clearance I lose. I found a suitable position on one side of the armour plating, see photos. marked and drilled 12mm holes for M12, 8.8 hardness bolts (each bolt has 40.9 kN of gorce thick large washers for good spread of recovery load. Fit, bolt, washers (flat and spring), double nut locking, then cut the remaining thread off, to reduce any opportunity for it to get caught up on. the ring is cable tied up, so it does not get caught on anything. A shackle and strap will be fitted ready to go before off-roading and then cable tied up into place again. next I have to test it and trial it before fitting the other recovery point.
Platinum Member MGomes Posted January 18, 2023 Platinum Member Share Posted January 18, 2023 Now to get it really stuck to see if it works
Platinum Member Caroline12 Posted January 18, 2023 Author Platinum Member Share Posted January 18, 2023 It will work a treat, each bolt can handle 4090kg of force x 4 bolts = 12,360kg or 12.36 tonnes of force. Strap is 12 tonnes. Jeep Renegade 1.5 tonnes… I think it will cope :))
UKTJ
Nice colour matching! My only concern would be getting to the recovery point if you are stuck in thick mud or deep water, as you'll be having to do everything by feel. But take your point that good options are limited given the design of the Renegade.
