Annual servicing

When the Jeep reaches its 10th year or 100k mileage, there is no service schedule after that in the hand book.  Do you revert back to the 10k service schedule and take it from there?  Our Jeep Grand Cherokee is now 9 years old and has 62.5k on the clock and has a full Jeep service history.  I would like to keep to some sort of service schedule and may move away from it being serviced by the Jeep dealership as they do not offer anything more than what a local Inde can do at a fraction  of the price..

Hi Surfer, I would say the big brains on here will be able to give you a definitive answer to your question. In my humble opinion if the Jeep is out of any sort of warrenty then i would find a local Inde you can trust and use them as chances are you are being shafted on price by going to a dealership.

I found a local Inde guy who knew all about a Jeeps so gave him some small jobs and checks to do - found him to be very reasonable and knowlagable so now I use him for everything if I cant do it. It also helps to support local small independents in these hard times.

Hope that helps, and the bigger better brains should be awake soon to help you more 👍🤣

I agree with Spookie, as a trained mechanic, i used to do everything myself, but now i have a great indi garage that is a proper Jeep specialist, as i work in the middle and far east, usually away for 3 to 5 months at a time, i leave a jeep with him to work on when he is not busy, and he only charges me a very low rate, less than a third of what a dealer charges, also his work is of a very high standard. what area are you in ?

The engine oil and fuel and air filters I always keep on one rolling periodic mileage programme. The diff oils and power steering another and the gearbox and transfer case another. I keep a book of receipts to append to the service manual. MOTs usually find other wear and tear issues to deal with.

There are good dealerships, but my most of my horror experiences have been through them with different marques: cracked engine block after cambelt change, broken cubbybox lid, spraying all the autobox fluid over the engine bay 150 miles from home at night after a change because the cap wasnt fitted properly, and all of that with extortionate prices!

You have to pay for the privilige of shite workmanship 💩💩🤣🤣

Apologies for the lateness in reply but never got any notification even though it is supposed to be turned on.  We use an Inde for our 1997 Corolla and they are excellent.  We used the same Inde for my previous Jeep, but still had to take the Jeep to the dealership for some work where software needed to be updated.  Current Jeep had its major 100k or 8 year service in Sept last year, gearbox, axles etc.  Mileage since then has obviously been very low.  I think it is time to start using local Inde again for Jeep.  Unfortunately no Jeep specialists around the Worcestershire area although many years ago there was a Jeep dealership in Worcester.

I used to take my WK2 to a dealer in Christchurch for servicing; so much better than one I used in the West Midlands. However, lockdown last year prevented the overnight ferry journey South plus two day drive from Aberdeen, so I have hunted around for a local independent. He's good, but can't get the parts/filters any cheaper than I can by post from Germany, so I buy the bits and he does the work. Result!

So far, we're only at 60,000 miles and 6 years, so I'm picking and choosing the service items from the recommendations for each, depending on how I've used the car – towing, long distance travel to Sweden and Spain, touring in mountainous areas, and even some shopping at the Co-Op. Frequent oil changes get the most emphasis, but I am not certain when to change the auto gearbox oil & filter. Jeep suggests after 100,000 miles, ZF say 100,000 km. The same box in a BMW is supposedly lubricated for life! It's quite a big job, and we don't have any auto box specialists within a couple of hundred miles (by sea).
