...come back from the Italian Alps...

Hi folks,

Just got back from a lightening tour of the alps. Set out to do some of the Military roads around Bardonecchia (for me) as part of a longer trip to take in some hiking (for Mrs TH) in Zermatt, Switzerland, and Europarc themepark in Germany (for the lads). Not bad for an 8 day trip!

As per usual, the Trailhawk galloped up the mountains like a little mountain goat (yes I know its horses that gallop, but didn't know what goats did - but you get the idea). The tracks were challenging enough gravel/rock and some snow-melt mud...definitely steeeeeeep and with some epic views and vertigo inducing drops to the side.

This part of Italy is definitely worth a trip for some excellent gravel road bashing as well as hiking, eating and generally lapping up the scenery. Oh, and if you can bear to leave the Jeep in a car park for a few hours, the suspension bridge in Randa (near Zermatt) is also worth a stop over on the way there or back - although I think the wider off-road driving options in Switzerland are limited (unless someone knows otherwise???)

It’s a lovely part of the world- I have stayed there on 3 occasions at the Hotel Europa and driven many of the tracks. There is an organised event there normally in September with Michel Couret, MCO4x4, based at the hotel with 3 different loops spread over 3 days. On another occasion we used a road book from Pistav.fr and drove from the southern Alps down to Menton, stopping in Bardonecchia on the way. The tracks are Napoleonic as are the forts along the way. Beautiful scenery and mainly above the tree line.

Will do now. I'm hoping to do this route on a return trip next year so would good if it was open...
