Looking Great Neal.  :great: Glad to see the suspension won out in the end for the bank holiday plans...

Clint,

It was our wedding anniversary, but fortunately Sarah  had to go away with Max to an elite goalkeeper 2 day training camp.

So I had no real choice but to occupy myself with working on the JK for the weekend. It will cost me at sometime in the future.

Love the colour and agree with the petrol. I only had the diesel for a few months but really pleased with the 3.6 and so much better off road. Look forward to seeing the improvements.

Few more bit sorted today.

I have been putting off the final bit of the lift, the new front prop and putting the skid plates back on.

The AEV 3.5" lift needs either a new prop shaft or an exhausts extension as the OEM shaft will catch the exhaust and skid plates when flexing. You can get away with it for a while, but as everything else was happening it seemed like the time to do it.

It's a Dana Spicer 1310 designed for JK's with a 2" - 4" lift. This is a relatively simple job with the right tools and a lift. I was not looking forward to doing it with my basic tools on the drive.

The difficulty is removing the rear yoke and all YouTube searches had people changing it with impact wrenches.... which I don't have and difficult to justify for just this job.

I ended up bolting a metal bar to the yoke, which then locked up against the floor and allowed me to undo the pinion nut.. All really simple in the end.  :glasses:

New shaft goes in very easy after that and skid plates back on.

Bumpers next  :icon_rr:

Harry,

Yes bumper makes a big difference.

Still need to fill the gap with a winch on mine, but it will do for now.

Got some extra lights instead  :icon_rr:

I had the PoisonSpyder brawlers rockers on my last JK and have spent long hours looking for something different for this build.

Only to end up back with the brawlers rockers.

This afternoon after getting them back for being coated with something similar to line-x from RevolutionaryCoatings.

I set about fitting them. The biggest challenge both mentally and technical is the rivnuts.

There are 13 rivnuts each side and you get a "tool" with the kit to instal them. The tool is just a bolt and a few washers.

Having struggled with this last time I have invested in a rivnuts setter, which works fantastic. :icon_rr:

That said, you still have to drill 26 holes in the bodywork.  :gasp:

Once the rivnuts are in it's just a process of bolting on the 2 parts of the sliders and it's all done.

Managed to do the drivers side before being rained off, passenger side tomorrow.

Those brawlers look so awesome, I'm still very jealous of them and looking for something similar, just not sure I can cope with all those rivenuts!

Look forward to seeing it at aldermaston - we need to get a hydro blue group photo!

Rear bumper today. Ran out of time, so lot of wires to sort and tidy up. Water tanks need plumbing in.

Also need to look at the number plate, as it needs levelling off a bit.

But it's coming together.  :icon_rr:

Love it Neal, looking forward to seeing what you can manage to get done before next weekend!

Thanks Harry,

Hope to sort the wiring out before next weekend on the rear number plate/high level brake light.

It's a busy week this week so even that might be pushing it.

High level brake light sorted, number plate light sorted.

The Ridgid chaser is a real nice bit of kit

Also tried out the Ridgid spots tonight, not sure the neighbors like me anymore, not that they did in the first place

  • 7 months later...

First Saturday in a while where I have not been supporting my eldest at football, so a little Jeep therapy.

Goes in for paint in a few weeks.
