Summer months are approaching [emoji4]

Toying with the idea of a soft top, but prefer the security of a hard top.

Obvious choice is the Sunrider.

1. Who has one fitted?

2. How do you rate it?

3. Black diamond or Twill?

4. Where's the cheapest place you've found one?

Thanks in advance! [emoji1360]

If you're worried about security when you have a soft fitted, have a look at Tuffy Security decks - https://www.tuffyproducts.com/p-525-tuffy-2011-jk-deluxe-security-deck-enclosure.aspx

I have one, and think it's great.  Gives me a totally secure boot area.

Or, you could make something similar..

Funnly  I've hag my tj  since 2001  I've never had any security issues ... I leave it parked in towns with only the half doors on with no windows in & its never been damaged or any thing stolen from it ... mind I don't leave much in it to steal  [emoji4]

Don't have a Sunrider, but have had a full soft top on my previous JK and will be adding one to my current JK.

3. Black diamond or Twill - have had full soft top in both and both are great,  but the twill is much better. Quieter and also dark on the inside. So that would be my choice.

4. Check out Jeepey for UK or google for US suppliers, just don't forget import and tax.

As for security, I have run a soft top on my JK for a few years and was worried about leaving stuff in it when parked, but you have that issue even with the hard top. There are no hidden storage areas other than the glove box, so everything is on display.

Like Fenton I looked for something to make a secure rear storage area, mine was DIY, but gives great hidden storage and once the tail gate is shut and locked totally secure.

Germany is a good source of soft tops. I bought a replacement sun rider top last year. Bestop have improved quality as far as I can see. Cost was a lot less than uk sources however brexit may have hanged that.

I find the sunrider option great for the summer. Less hassle than taking the whole roof down.

I went with the Trektop - Had sunrider previously - both black diamond. - Can't fault them. - Think it came from Germany

What ever option you go for, please check with your insurance.

As silly as it seems, most insurance will only cover the soft top if it was a manufacturer option.

Have just had a long conversation with my insurance and the underwriters and they will only cover the soft top if it is a jeep original accessory.

If the soft top is from an aftermarket supplier, then they view it as a mod.

We did go round in this dance for a good while with me explaining that the JK is designed for the hard top to lift off and have a soft top.

So moral of the story, check with your insurance if your going for a soft top in any shape or form.

I have a bestop sun rider in both TJ and JK. Nice to be able to flip back and not have to remove the whole top. The TJ is still a pain in the ass with those flipping plastic flanges above the doors. Jk much easier.

On the TJ, I bought Bestop NX and the screws along the cross piece above the windscreen all had to be redrilled and relocated but Dealer said that was common.

Ah. Thought the sun rider was a feature of that top. Oops!

Think your right they did call the fold back section sunrider.

But they now have a sunrider top which replaces the freedom panels
