Have you noticed the new car tax rates for vehicles registered after April 1st.  Wrangler petrols will be first year £2000.00 then £140 each year after .

so the year 1 cost will be absorbed in with the cost of the car..  A

After this, 2018 and onwards, it's a win win situation for anyone being any large engined Jeep (diesel and petrol).

For those who purchased prior to 2017 I believe we're stuck with the old pricing matrix.

It certainly is a better situation as currently the petrol is 1000k first registration and £500 each year after ! so longer term you save!

Your first year of ownership as from 1 April 2017 on Wrangler esque CO2 levels goes up a Grand.  After the first year it is golden. £140 per year.  So, a big demand perhaps prior to April 1 if you do not hold onto Jeeps long, if you keep them three plus years it gets better. If you buy a used 17 plate 12 months old you are in the drivers seat.

Or, personal import is £295 every year from year one I believe.  Shopping spree to the US anyone?

so, I've just shelled out year 2 tax in 2.8 CRD which was £500.  Does this mean I'll be paying £140 end of 2017 for year 3 tax?

I'm not sure how its affected in the future, but those black editions are pricey! My 2.8 is 295 annual - its crazy the difference the gearing makes.

wonder if you can SORN from date of first registration for 12 months and avoid the initial £2000, if you could I wonder how many dealers might do that.

More than likely not as what proportion is the first year tax ,  eg when I got mine last June tax I think was 1150 of which 500.00 was the v e l so if cashed in you'd get 11 months of that. May be wrong.
