Hi guys. Just thought id let you know about a successful order from Jeepin by al (JBA) over in the states. Ordered some clevis spacers for my KJ's front suspension. Was always a bit sceptical about ordering from overseas but ordered them late Tuesday and they have turned up today. Overall very impressed with the service. Would def not worry about ordering again.

Nice one.  I've had quite a bit of stuff from the US over the last few months and not had an issue with deliveries.

Which courier delivered them?  just be careful and watch out for the import and duty invoice from the likes of Fedex and TNT.  This will come through the post after the fact...

Not too sure to be honest.

You should be okay with DHL. Stuff they've delivered to me from stateside, they've called me to collect payment on duty and VAT.

What's the biggest heaviest thing you've ordered Fenton? Your Tuffy box came from the  US right, that must weigh a fair bit? Was the shipping expensive on that?

Has to be the Tuffy Security Deck.

From Morris 4x4 Centre the deck cost $456 (£320).  Shipping and handling was $141 (£99).  It was shipped via TNT, which was very very quick (about 3 days to get her from Florida).  My invoice from them to cover import duties and VAT was £140.

OK, so VAT 20%, import duty 20% = 40% plus agents fees on the dollar price. sound about right?

Hi Tim

Motor parts import duty is (should be) only 3.5-4.5% ... the big extra is the 20% VAT; if the consignment is big enough, the agents/handling fees can add up. Also the actual exchange rate you "get" has a big affect ...

It still makes sense to assume "the $ price will become the £'s you pay" by the time the goods get to your door ... then it's a pleasant surprise if you do better :glasses:

JBA (Jeepin by Al) has an excellent service, I have been their customer for years now as have other members here. Merlin is very help full and will check your order is correct before dispatching it. Also he stands behind his product if anything doesn't work properly. For the independent front suspension Jeep it's the only way to lift your Jeep properly and safely. Just wish his prices would be a bit cheaper  :glasses:

So here's a thought.........  :icon_idea: the Club has nearly 3000 members, so maybe a couple of hundred potentially actively working on their jeeps for modding, repairing or accessorising. So a reasonable number could be ordering in from the US where ( lets face it, and meaning no disrespect to any member or supplier on here) they have more kit, more choice, more stock and at least as much, if not more, knowledge of the product. And to add to that it's cheaper as well ! I just got quoted from a UK supplier for a bunch of kit at 50% more than I can get the exact same stuff from Morris 4x4 even allowing a good margin for exchange rate, VAT, duty, admin fees and  freight. And I'd even done all the research and given them  all the part numbers.

I have no problem with this, after all they aren't a charity for providing me with cheap Jeep parts, they have  to pay the bills right? But why would I pay that  I'm not getting anything extra for it? In my limited experience buying direct from the US it's been great and it seems that's the experience of most others too.

Sorry, back to the point, which is.... would it be worth the club / individual members trying to set up a way of sharing ( and therefore reducing)  the freight and admin costs by having some sort of arrangement with an importer/shipper for bringing stuff in from the US rather than everyone placing their individual orders ad hoc? Or even just a board where people who are ordering can post up to see if anyone else wants to come in with an order and share the cost. Has this been tried before?

Genius plan, or nice idea but totally unworkable?  :icon_study:

Tim,

Strangely, I have raised this to Stewart and am working on a solution, with someone how specialises in air freight.

I agree there is a good business option here.  Just need to work out the finer details......

I Import both airfreight an containers by sea weekly from the the US. Never bothered adding anything to our shipments simply as its hassle free to let the retailer ship and just pay the import on arrival. I can help out with my contacts if required :great:

Any update on this?  :icon_study:

Likely putting an order in soon and would be hate to discover a week later that JOC had negotiated a 20% discount and cheap shipping for members  :icon_mrgreen:

Tim,

Still WIP.

Out of interest where are you ordering from?  I'm on the look for Rubicon 10th Anniversary front bumper.  However, the week £ is putting me off a little at the moment

Hey Fen, no worries on that then. Ordering from Morris 4x4 ( who I've ordered with before, think you have too ? ) will be heavy as it's leaf springs and shocks, so like your bumper. See they do the 10th anniversary, front and rear. Want to go in on a joint order for the shipping? If that would work.

So, just been looking at the Morris 4x4 site and looks like they do a "Jeep club" program. Register your club with them, get goodies and perks on orders.  :icon_bounce::icon_e_smile: :icon_bounce: Sounds good?? Meant for US clubs obviously but something JOC could do/ would do. If it's not already been looked at seems like there's nothing to lose by it.

Thoughts??
