15000 miles per year at 20 mpg and £5 per gallon is £3750.

15000 miles per year at 35 mpg and £5 per gallon is £2143, so the diesel is £1607 per year cheaper on those assumptions. But which is more fun?

looks good. Would take someone that has/ had a 4.0L with you.

I am sure you would find someone willing to do it!

Good luck

What constitutes 'other things' that you mention?  Would you want to do 'other things' in your daily drive to work?  Were you toying with having both at the same time?  Which are you happier to maintain?  I know you wanted answers and I've just given you questions but maybe they will help clarify your thoughts.

What about an LPG conversion would soon pay for itself,  I don't know about this model but I assume it can be done.

So this thing is spotless. And I mean spotless, inside and out. No leaks underneath.

There is no way you would think it's a 1999

New wheels and tyre's 32 inch, would that make a difference to the gearing?

Sits at 70 just below 2000rpm

in and out of 4x4 no problem

The rear drivers side wheel bearing is leaking and needs to be replaced,  along with the anti roll bar.

New roll bar included.

Both advisories

The only thing I thought was the rad top hose. Little bit hard? Not solid, but the not as hard as my 2.5td xj after its up to temperature.

wind noise from where the roof joins the wind screen no draught but noisey

but then it's a way shorter hose and in better nick than mine.

He will take 6500.

any thoughts?

General Confusion

32" tyres will affect the gearing (and the fuel consumption) quite a bit.

Wind noise where the top joins the screen is not unusual.

Is it the bearing leaking or is it diff fluid leaking along the half-shaft?

Yeah bearing I think.

Looks the same as when it went on my xj.

And thoughts on the top hose?

What do you mean by effect the consumption quite a bit.

Also,  thanks for the advice so far!

If that is a cat C write-off you need to ask the insurance company what kind of repairs they foresee so that you can have a proper assessment of how much it will cost you. As per definition in cat C, the repairs needed exceed the car value... Your money and your decision.

I would walk away at this point...

You mention that it is spotless.  Presumably all the work has been done following the right off.  Personally I would want to know why it was written off, extent of the damage, by which insurance company, who did the repair work, when, cost etc etc etc.  But I am cynical and suspicious. Also as mentioned by others I would have a conversation with my insurance company.  If you plan to keep it until it dies is one thing but trying to sell later when it has been Cat c creates difficulties.  If one of the noughts was taken off the price I might be tempted but otherwise, big steps and plenty of them in the opposite direction.  Another one will come along one day
